Join me as I recount the unforgettable highlights that made this trip so unique. If you’re ready to experience Paris and its storied surroundings in unparalleled style, read on. Let’s turn your next travel wish into reality.

Day 1: Living Like a Local in the Theater District

We kicked off an unforgettable Parisian adventure at the magnificent Hotel Indigo Paris - Opera! From the seamless airport transfer to the warmest welcome from Emeline, the start of this journey was nothing short of spectacular. The evening was a classic Parisian experience – sipping wine, enjoying cheese and charcuterie at Café Auburn, and watching theater-goers bustle into nearby venues. This district, rich in art and culture, also boasts the famed Musée du Parfum Fragonard, where I once had the thrill of creating my signature scent with a master perfumer. If you’re looking for the perfect mix of luxury and local charm, Hotel Indigo's location is unbeatable!

Travel insight: For a blend of luxury and an authentic Parisian experience, stay in the heart of the theater district.

Day 2: A Journey Through Luxury & Gastronomy

I explored the grandeur of the InterContinental Paris le Grand and Kimpton St. Honoré, both showcasing Eiffel Tower views that are quintessentially Parisian. Lunch at Café de la Paix was a nod to history, with their original French Onion Soup and Blanquette de Veau. The culinary journey continued at Café Palais Royal with their signature Madeleine cocktail and duck confit, topped with a magical Paris by Night tour past an illuminated Louvre.

Pro tip: Save room for dessert at Café de la Paix. Their mille-feuille is legendary!

Day 3: City Chic to River Luxe

A delightful breakfast at Hotel Indigo Paris started the day before embarking on an unexpected adventure courtesy of a classic Parisian taxi detour. This led to a beautiful day capped by an extraordinary dinner aboard the AmaWaterways AmaLyra. Nothing beats the welcome from the river's charm and the chef’s table dining experience!

Travel tip: Unexpected detours in Paris can lead to hidden gems and memorable experiences.

Day 4: Following Royal Footsteps in Les Andelys

A morning at Château Gaillard, the legendary fortress of Richard the Lionheart, was like stepping into a storybook. Views over the Seine and emerald-hued landscapes made every step of the hike worthwhile. A perfect day included a warm chocolat chaud and fresh croissant from a boulangerie in Petit Andelys.

Reflection: The grandeur of medieval sites paired with simple pleasures make French river cruising special.

Day 5: From Medieval Charm to Modern Marvel

We explored the postcard-perfect town of Honfleur, its historic harbor inspiring Impressionist masterpieces. Later, Le Havre's post-war architecture showcased resilience and reinvention, a powerful reminder that beauty takes many forms. The day closed with a compelling presentation on WWII aboard the AmaLyra, enriching the lead-up to Normandy.

Travel insight: Journeys that blend history, culture, and cuisine create lasting memories.

Day 6: An Emotional Journey Through Normandy

A day dedicated to remembrance at Colville Cemetery and Omaha Beach was profoundly moving. The contrast between past sacrifices and present peace was deeply humbling. The Atlantic Wall bunkers and the stories of Arromanches-les-Bains highlighted human determination.

Reflection: Some places hold history so deep, they shift your perspective on freedom and courage.

Day 7: Rouen's History and Culinary Treasures

We walked in the footsteps of Joan of Arc and admired Monet’s view of Notre Dame, discovering that his painting spot was in an unexpected lingerie shop back in the day. A walk past La Couronne, France’s oldest restaurant, and where Julia Child had her first French meal, was an unforgettable bucket list moment. (If only we'd been able to get a table!)

Pro tip: Embrace both famous sites and hidden stories for a richer travel experience.

Day 8: When Art Meets Nature in Giverny

We spent the morning cruising to Vernon, followed by an afternoon in Monet’s breathtaking gardens. Standing on the Japanese bridge, surrounded by water lilies, it was clear why Monet made this place his muse for over 40 years.

Travel insight: Visit Giverny in the afternoon when the light best highlights its natural beauty.

Day 9: Château de Malmaison and Seine Wonders

We visited Château de Malmaison, where Empress Joséphine’s refined taste in art and gardens is still evident. A surprise Seine cruise on Bateaux Parisiens brought unexpected joy, surrounded by local families enjoying the holiday. The day concluded with an awe-inspiring farewell led by AmaWaterways’ Captain Alex, complete with a sparkling Eiffel Tower backdrop.

Travel tip: Embrace unexpected moments that make a trip truly magical.

Day 10: Transition to the Left Bank

We checked into the historic Hotel Bel Ami, perfect for literature enthusiasts. Lunch was an inspiring meeting with luxury travel innovators at L'Entracte Opera, followed by some downtime and a delicious burger – because sometimes, simple comforts complete a day.

Travel wisdom: Balance high culture with everyday pleasures to truly savor Paris.

Day 11: Versailles Grandeur and Final Parisian Strolls

A private guided tour of Versailles with our guide Marie Diane was a window into royal opulence, enriched by captivating stories of the Hall of Mirrors and Louis XIV’s reign. The last evening in Paris was spent wandering from the Louvre to Place de la Concorde, ending with wine and charcuterie at Le Pré aux Clercs.

Travel insight: A local guide can transform a visit into an unforgettable storytelling experience.

Culinary Highlights Onboard

Our river journey wasn’t just about sightseeing—culinary delights played a starring role. On two memorable occasions, the chef onboard delighted us with live demonstrations, teaching us how to craft French classics like crepes and macarons. Watching the mastery and tasting the fresh creations added an extra layer of indulgence to our experience.

Travel insight: Sometimes, the best souvenirs are the flavors you learn to recreate.

This Parisian journey was a blend of history, culture, cuisine, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Whether you're inspired by medieval fortresses, royal palaces, or the simple pleasure of watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle, Paris and its surrounding gems have something unparalleled to offer.
